Why I left D2D and focused on just Amazon now
I remember how excited I was to find a service provider who could put my books on many platforms. They only charged 10% fee for every sale. That's it! I joined them from there!
I got about 20 sales with them in 2024. I was so, so happy. Then they started giving users a 10 USD threshold for PayPal. I used to be able to transfer 7 USD, but after that, I could not take my slice of pie for my own work. I can only see the number... just staring at me like a fish in the aquarium.
The biggest gong was when they decided to put an annual maintenance fee for those who made under 100 USD. The fee is small, only 12 USD, but I feel like I got slapped in the face.
They were good at the start. As someone who started with just 10% without other things to worry about, I feel like I am being betrayed. 12 USD is small for the US and Europe. But I am not from there, so I was risking my own pocket.
Sometimes I ask myself why I do care? Why do I want to sell my books so badly?
Looking back, it took a lot of learning curves to get my books out there.
- I wrote English novels. I didn't use my native language cause the ideas were in English, in my head.
- I tried to get it published in my country.
- I translated my books into my native language to still try to publish with my local publishers.
- I tried reaching out to foreign English publishers, turns out they do submissions with literary agents. So, I wrote to Australian, UK, and US literary agents.
- I tried to find a way to self-publish my novels online. At the time, Amazon accepted Payoneer and credit cards. I didn't have both. Payoneer is subscription-based, so it's a gamble if I don't use it. I tried Barnes and Noble, but they don't accept Asian countries.
- I searched the internet to find another way to publish my novels. Then I found D2D. I took a leap of faith and signed up. I was moved to see they were legitimately helping. I was on their team until the maintenance fee dropped.
- I checked Amazon again in 2026, and they accepted debit cards now. So, I took that chance.
My family and friends don't understand how hard it is to get a book published without actual support. I still question why I do this. But every time I read my stories, I feel proud.
I love my Elena and Frank, as well as my Leo and Nadia, just as much as my fanfiction OCs in Wattpad.
If you're reading this, thank you for checking out my stuff. Have a good day/night!
